What is the significance of the two colony types?
D.  Type 2 is gram-positive, and type 1 is gram-negative.

No, the color of the colonies has nothing to do with Gram staining characteristics.  But because these bacteria even grew on the MacConkey plate means they most likely are gram-negative rods.  You should know why this is true!
